Parvati Sarovar — The Sacred Glacial Lake of Adi Kailash
Nestled at approximately 4,000 meters in the shadow of Adi Kailash, Parvati Sarovar (also known as Parvati Lake) is one of the most sacred and serene spots on the Adi Kailash Yatra circuit.
For pilgrims, this pristine glacial lake is considered equivalent to Mansarovar Lake near Mount Kailash in Tibet — but accessible entirely within India.
The Mythology of Parvati Sarovar
According to Hindu mythology, Goddess Parvati performed intense meditation (tapasya) at this very spot to win Lord Shiva as her husband. The lake is believed to have been created by her divine presence.
The scriptures describe Parvati Sarovar as one of the Shaktipeeths — places imbued with divine feminine energy. Pilgrims believe that:
- Taking a holy dip in Parvati Sarovar cleanses all sins
- The lake waters have healing properties
- Praying here fulfills sincere wishes
- The combination of Adi Kailash darshan + Parvati Sarovar dip equals the merit of a Kailash Mansarovar yatra
